چکیده

The behavior of a laboratory-scale pulsed combustor is shown to undergo a global bifurcation as the equivalence ratio of the propane-air mixture is reduced toward the lean flammability limit. At near-stoichiometric and moderately lean conditions, the acoustically driven combustion oscillations exhibit small, stochastic cycle-tocycle variations. At very lean conditions, the available fuel inventory is rapidly consumed and slowly restocked resulting in a high degree of variability in combustion quality over the span of several acoustic cycles. This mode of operation is very unstable and often leads to misfire and flameout of the combustor. A feedback control strategy is applied which occasionally applies small, appropriately timed injections of supplemental fuel to hasten the restocking process and push the trajectory of the system toward the more stable operating mode. Emission levels of unburned hydrocarbons and NO x are monitored to demonstrate the effectiveness of feedback control. Possible improvements for the control strategy are recommended.

Drilling Trajectory Prediction Model for Push-the-bit Rotary Steerable Bottom Hole Assembly

The study of rotary steering drilling technology is currently one of the hot topics in the drilling engineering field. It requires accurate well trajectory control instructions when rotary steerable tools are applied to achieve the well trajectory control goal. A drilling trajectory prediction model will benefit this progress. According to the continuous beam theory, a mechanical model of push-...

Application of nonlinear feedback control to enhance the performance of a pulsed combustor

A feedback control strategy is applied to enhance the performance of a laboratory-scale pulsed combustor operating near the lower flammability limit. As with many combustion processes, at lean conditions, combustion instabilities develop which result in complex, lowfrequency fluctuations in fuel concentration and lead directly to misfire and flameout. The control strategy exploits the highly no...

i Techniques for Enhancing Durability and Equivalence Ratio Control in a Rich-Lean, Three•Stage Ground Power Gas Turbine Combustor (NASA-TM-82922) TECHNIQUES FOR ENHANCING DURABILITY AND EQUIVALENCE RATIO CONTECL IN A RICH-LEAN, THREE-STAGE GiOUND POWER GAS

This effort summarizes the work performed under Task IV, Sector Rig Pests of the CRT Critical Research and Support Technology Program, a Department of Energy funded project. The rig tests of a can-type combustor were performed to demonstrate two advanced ground power engine combustor concepts: steam cooled rich-burn combustor primary zones for enhanced durability; and variable combustor geometr...

Pulsed Intra-Arterial Drug Injection during Diastolic Phase of Cardiac Function Increases Drug Efficacy by Enhancing Pharmacological Exposure of Targeted Tissues

Diastolic phase of cardiac function is associated with lower arterial flow and hence higher concentration of intra arterially injected drug is achieved at the site of injection. It is herein postulated that drugs show higher efficacy when injected during the diastolic phase of cardiac function. It is also postulated that this benefit cannot be achieved when the drug is injected with higher rate...
